about
One of many thought-of but ultimately scrapped ideas from when I was younger, Icecap was the concluding song of a planned concept album about nuclear war and its survivors. Parts of at least 12 songs were written, but lyrics became a bear, and the instrumental sections were either discarded or saved for later usage in different songs. Icecap was the only song recorded from this time and the only one with a full set of lyrics. It stands as a snapshot of what I was trying to do at the time and an odd track out in my "discography," but let's be real, there isn't much of one yet. Went for a vibe both desolate and tense here, something I think I got down somehow. Imagery also partially inspired by a bleak and tedious snowy winter drive to Amarillo, TX in 2010, and all the empty earth surrounding it.
lyrics
Lyrics:
Where the steppe and tundra cross and converge, a salty sting and radiating smell merge.
A snow sheet blanketing the soil and trough.
Another chilling wind to cap it all off.
All our intentions are constructed lies.
We only seek peace under radiant sky.
After the consequence we realized we'd wronged.
After this chilling wind had capped it all off.
As it has always been, we'll start anew again.
Two strikes and one more ball. What's the call?
(War, children, it's just a shot away...)
With each new winter that we witness alive, a hospitality arrives from the ice.
If we learn nothing from attempt number one, another chilling wind will cap it all off.
Another chilling wind to cap it all off.
Another chilling wind to cap it all off.
Another chilling wind to cap it all off.
Another chilling wind to cap it all off...
